Has large five to seven lobed leaves which are divided almost to the leaf base. The red leaf stalks are short and stiff. Leaf colour is a deep purple-red or maroon. The colour, though not quite as deep as bloodwood, holds well but burns in hot locations. Attraction is a vigorous and sturdy grower becoming a tall upright round-headed tree of 7 mtrs (23 ft) high.
