Acer Palmatum - Sumi nagashi
A large-leaved cultivar and is considered one of the best red Matsumuraes. It has seven-lobed leaves ( two extra, very tiny lobes sometimes appear on the largest leaves) , are deeply divided, almost to the leaf base. The elongate -ovate lobes taper gradually to a thin sharp point. The lobes are well separated. The margins are toothed, the teeth having sharp, hooked tips. The short leaf stalks are red. Spring colour is bright purple-red with the leaves darkening to a deep maroon almost black-red in the summer. From mid-summer to autumn the colour changes to deep green-red and again a change in the autumn to crimson red. This is a vigourous growing semi-upright tree which can reach 6 mtr (20ft) . Excellent for landscapes
